Grantmakers of Color: Learning from WRAG's "Putting Racism on the Table"
Featuring Tamara Copeland, President, Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers

Wednesday, November 28, 3:00-5:00pm, with reception to follow.

Copeland will speak about the groundbreaking series, “Putting Racism on the Table”, a learning and action series for philanthropy launched in 2016 in Washington, D.C.

Philanthropy MA’s annual Grantmakers of Color program is an opportunity to bring together people of color who work in philanthropy to enable a space where they can look at issues within their organizations as well as issues in the field. Often as the only person of color in their “shop”, this affinity group creates an open space for them to share commonalities.

A networking reception will follow.

Tamara Copeland, President of Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers, is the organization’s major thought leader, helping to envision and implement work that meets the needs of the sector and of the region.  She came to WRAG with extensive experience in nonprofit management, policy and children’s issues having led Voices for America’s Children, the National Health & Education Consortium, and the Infant Mortality Initiative of Southern Governors’ Association and Southern Legislative Conference as well as having been Congressman Bobby Scott’s (D-VA) Legislative Director. Over the last two years, she’s become a walking aficionado, taking what she calls urban hikes all over the region. The longest walk so far was 50,000 steps (as recorded by her Fitbit) on a pleasant fall day to Mt. Vernon and back. She says she needs these walks even more now since becoming a huge fan of the organic food service, Blue Apron.
