Organization Overview

Scholar Athletes (SA) is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization that was launched in 2009 with the support of former Boston mayor Thomas M. Menino and former Boston Public Schools (BPS) Superintendent Dr. Carol Johnson, in response to a series of Boston Globe articles that identified deficiencies within BPS’ athletic programming. With Suffolk Construction’s CEO John Fish as the founder, SA is a multimillion-dollar program designed to reduce the opportunity gap for urban public high school students and pursues this vision across high schools in Boston, Springfield and Everett.

Position Summary

The primary focus of the position will be to support the planning and execution of fundraising and cultivation strategies to achieve short-term and long-term organizational fundraising goals, managing the department’s Salesforce database, and providing administrative support for the department.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility is to provide development and fundraising support for all cultivation, stewardship, and advancement efforts of the Development team. Specific duties include:

  • Support strategic event planning and implementation, including the Gala and other events
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating Zone visits for donors and prospects
  • Support the development of all event collateral, including but not limited to save-the-dates, invitations, committee packets, sponsorship and recognition materials and event-day displays
  • Manage the Development CRM database, including contact management, dashboard development and producing weekly revenue reports
  • Research corporations and foundations for potential engagement and support
  • Assist in the production of materials for the organizations’ Board of Directors orientations and meetings
  • Schedule donor and prospect meetings for SA Executive Leadership team and external stakeholders
  • Produce mailing lists for the annual fund, event invitations and other mailings, manage & update address database as needed
  • Oversee the external communication database, including contact management and content development for eblasts and newsletters
  • Assist with organization marketing and communications efforts, including updating the website, social media post, etc.
  • In collaboration with the Finance and Operations team, process and track all donations and process invoices for payment
  • In consultation with the Managing Director of Advancement, set mutually agreeable performance goals/standards to effectively measure the quality and quantity of the relationships, engagement results and donor satisfaction.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience in nonprofit Development or a related field
  • Prior experience managing a CRM system (Salesforce preferred)
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interface with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Ability to handle confidential materials with discretion and to exercise good judgment, sensitivity, tact and diplomacy
  • Highly motivated, self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, inclusive environment
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage many projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced, professional environment
  • Ability to handle confidential materials with discretion and to exercise good judgment, sensitivity, tact and diplomacy
  • Professional and donor-centric approach, demonstrated professional maturity, and ability to interact with high-level executives, trustees, community members and partner organizations

  • Ability to work hours that will include occasional early morning, evenings and some weekends
