About the Team

JFF’s Development team provides strategic and operational support on concept and proposal development, funder reporting, and award execution. The team seeks out new funding opportunities, supports relationships between JFF and its current foundation and public funders, and supports JFF’s emerging individual giving efforts. More specifically, the team assists with business development strategy, prospective funder and donor research, identifying and assessing funding opportunities and RFPs, project research, and the development of concepts, proposals, and funder reports.

About the Position

Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Development, the Development Coordinator serves as a critical member of JFF’s Development team, with responsibility for 1) support and coordination of JFF’s grant and contract proposals for a wide range of private funders and federal, state, and local agencies, and 2) managing current and prospective funder data, analyzing and reporting on JFF’s funding pursuit and funder prospects. The Development Coordinator position will proactively manage and provide expert support to JFF program, Development and Fiscal staff during the pre-award process, including proposal development, internal proposal review and submission, and initial award set-up. This position presents an exciting opportunity for a driven, highly organized individual to engage with colleagues across departments and at all levels of the organization to support funding pursuit and grants management in a highly-regarded non-profit organization that is a national leader in the fields of education and workforce development.


The principal duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Proposal Management and Submission

  • Proactively assist program, Development, and Fiscal staff with grant and contract pursuit processes, including managing/monitoring proposal development timelines and preparing materials to guide proposal development and submission.
  • Track organization-wide deadlines including all funding proposals, grant/contract-funded project start dates, end dates, reporting dates, and renewal dates, as well as other important dates related to proposal submission and funder reporting.
  • Manage and coordinate information sharing between program and Fiscal staff to ensure that proposal budgets are prepared in a timely manner and align with proposed project activities.
  • Assist in preparation of standard proposal elements, including organizational qualifications statements, staff biographies, support letters, and required funder forms.
  • Liaise with external partnering organizations to secure all materials and information required for proposal submission and ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate JFF internal review and approval process for funder submission according to JFF grant seeking and grants management policies and quality assurance procedures.
  • Coordinate review of grant/contract agreements; upon execution of agreements, update internal systems to reflect new funding and disseminate information according to internal protocols.

Research and Data Management

  • Conduct prospecting research and other similar background information research for JFF’s current, strong institutional giving efforts and burgeoning individual giving efforts.
  • Review, modify, and in some cases, develop system for data entry that will allow for optimum reporting, querying, and prospecting.
  • Provide consistent, timely, and accurate research or data reports to senior leaders and other internal teams.
  • Work with program teams to keep data and information up to date in Salesforce.


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 2 years of experience, preferably in non-profits or in development/business development functions
  • Strong project management skills and highly-developed organizational skills; able to work independently, prioritize, and meet competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to communicate ideas clearly and concisely in writing to a public audience
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to maintain open and effective communication with staff at all levels across the organization, including senior leadership
  • Strong professional ethics; able to maintain high level of confidentiality
  • Familiar with or able to learn Salesforce, grants management and other internal systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel
