Organizational Overview

Since 2004 Interise has been a national leader in business-led economic development. Small businesses are the U.S. job creation growth engine, generating 64% of net new jobs over the past 15 years. Interise provides established small employers in lower-income communities with the management education, business know-how, and professional networks needed to plan, achieve, and manage the long-term growth of their businesses. Completion of our StreetWise ‘MBA’™ leads directly to authenticated business growth, net new job creation, and community leadership. As a result, Interise businesses create jobs, last year at 9X the rate of the private sector as a whole. Over 75% of Interise business owners are women, minorities, immigrants or located in a low- to moderate-income community. The World Bank has identified Interise as ‘one of the 25 must see programs for growing established entrepreneurs.

Through our innovative networked nonprofit business model, we have grown a national network of partners currently utilizing our StreetWise ‘MBA’™ in 75+ cities across the country. Over 4000 small business owners have used our award-winning StreetWise ‘MBA’™ to grow their existing small businesses, leading to the creating of 30,000 new jobs over the last ten years. Our annual operating budget is just under $5MM, and we have 25 FTE. The Interise national network has an aggregated budget of $10MM to $12MM, and includes an additional 75 FTEs. There are 80+ contracted instructors across the country. We are a compact, well managed organization with much larger impact than our finances and staffing would initially lead you to believe. Quite simply, we consistently punch above our weight.

Position Overview 

The Program Associate will provide essential support to the Program Operations team, which includes a number of key cross-functional processes. As a member of the Program Operations Team, s/he will play an integral part in ensuring organizational effectiveness by: informing process improvements that increase operational efficiency, support data management and communications, and work to codify streamlined system and processes. Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Direct Delivery - 10% Assist with program launch & management with tasks such as:
    • Class scheduling, graduation and other logistics
    • Program participant recruitment and retention
    • Reporting
    • Marketing and communication
  • National Programs - 40% Assist with program launch & management with tasks such as:
    • Class scheduling, graduation and other logistics
    • Program participant recruitment and retention
    • General communication and updates to field staff
    • Reporting
    • Marketing and communication
  • Training and Learning - 50% Assist with departmental tasks such as:
    • Coordination of logistics associated with instructor hiring, training, site visits, and session and other programmatic evaluation, and curriculum ordering
    • Management of online community - including updating materials and managing member privileges
    • Continual Engagement communications (through Mailchimp) and scheduling and management of ongoing programming

Reports to:

Program Manager, Learning & Development


  • 1-3 years of successful work experience; ideally with experience working in a nonprofit or social enterprise.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the Interise mission and strategic priorities with a desire to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with focus on social change.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Experience and comfort with a CRM system, ideally Salesforce, and its use in program logistics or willingness to learn.
  • Experience and comfort with online communities and/or LMS (learning management system), or willingness to learn.
  • Experience dealing with confidential or sensitive information.
  • Strong team orientation and ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people, but also independently.
  • Healthy sense of humor, enthusiasm, and appreciation for creativity, fun and diversity in the workplace. High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude with a desire to be an integral member of a learning community.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.


Commensurate with experience.
