The National Center for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) has released a 21-page report titled “Pennies for Progress: A Decade of Boom for Philanthropy, A Bust for Social Justice.” As the title states, NCRP believes that nonprofit foundations have shirked their responsibility to attend to the immediate needs of vulnerable populations.

Giving has been on the rise in the U.S. over the past four years and is surging to new heights in the final months of 2016. Donations have increased 3.5% since 2015, according to financial company Blackbaud BLKB, +0.02% which analyzes more than $18 billion in annual charitable giving.
