POSITION SUMMARY
This position requires an intelligent, flexible person willing to learn new tasks and problem solve to advance the mission of Make-A-Wish® Massachusetts and Rhode Island. This generalist role will be responsible for performing routine accounting, benefits administration, and other operational functions to support the finance and operations department of the organization. This position requires an individual who is IT-savvy and able and willing to assume trouble-shooting and problem-solving IT tasks in partnership with our national and local IT partners. The position will also be responsible for assisting the Volunteer Management and Wish Program departments on a variety of recurring duties and special projects. This full-time, exempt position is based in our Boston office.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Finance Duties (approximately 40%):

  • Perform monthly closing journal entries
  • Assist with monthly closing functions and reports
  • Prepare bank deposits
  • Process credit cards through our online system
  • Assist with annual audit and budget process
  • Assist with bi-weekly employee payroll; maintain payroll records and liaise to payroll company 
  • Assist with staff recruitment, onboarding, and separation processes
  • Liaise to benefits vendors and ensure proper documentation and record keeping 

Volunteer and Wish Department Duties (approximately 40%):

  • Learn Raiser’s Edge (RE) and Financial Edge (FE) systems
  • Balance accounts in both RE and FE systems and in NOAH (national) database
  • Review and follow-up on wish assist invoicing process
  • Ensure wishes are closed in RE within 45 days of wish date
  • Reconciles and audits wish and volunteer files to ensure compliance with standards
  • Receives wish visit volunteer paperwork in a timely manner
  • Completes wish volunteer paperwork before transmitting to director to assign the wish
  • Supports directors of both programs in systems, process, and other needs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Operational and IT Duties (approximately 20%):

  • Serve as primary IT liaison to outsourced IT firm and national office
  • Troubleshoot, problem-solve and support staff with technical difficulties
  • Track equipment inventory and maintenance
  • Serve as back-up to Office Coordinator for A/P processing, in-kind tracking and check requests
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree (Business or Accounting a plus).
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a professional setting
  • Professional tone, appearance, and demeanor
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to organizational mission, team work and customer service
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience working with databases, accounting software, or similar
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge and/or Financial Edge a plus, but not required
  • Ability to work with a variety of people and constituents, including volunteers 
  • Ability to work independently and with forethought of organizational needs, and without supervision while demonstrating discretion and independent judgment
  • Self-motivated, creative problem-solving team player
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities with minimal supervision
