The Development Specialist, under the direction of the Director of Development, plans, organizes, and performs a variety of fundraising activities to increase revenue for MVES programs and services from individuals, foundations and corporations. The Development Specialist will research potential funding opportunities, communicate with, write, and coordinate timely submissions of a wide range of grant applications, proposals, and annual funding support requests. The Development Specialist will maintain comprehensive grant records, including fulfillment of grant tracking and reporting requirements. The Development Specialist will conduct proactive prospect research to identify new potential major gift donors (including individuals, foundations and corporations). The Development Specialist works to support efforts to ensure that the fundraising needs of the Agency, as defined by the Executive Director, Management team and Development Committee, are met in a timely and effective manner.

This is a part-time/20 hours a week benefit eligible position. Flexible scheduling available.


  • BA in related field preferred and at least 2 years’ experience in a non-profit fundraising

position with a focus on researching, writing and securing grants from corporations and foundations. Significant non-profit fundraising and grant writing experience may be substituted for a degree.

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for mission-driven work.

  • Excellence in written and verbal communication including the ability to engage and interact with donors and board members.

  • Demonstrated ability to peruse large volumes of information, find the details relevant to fundraising, and clearly, concisely, and accurately present findings.

  • Ability to effectively communicate the mission, goals, strengths and potential of the Agency.

  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve goals.

  • Work collaboratively and independently.

  • Take initiative and meet high expectations.

  • Simultaneously and effectively manage a variety of tasks / projects.

  • Must be highly organized, detail oriented, thorough, productive, able to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines.

  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in both MS Office Suite and donor software.

  • Private transportation and the ability to travel locally.

  • Able to lift and carry 35 lbs.

Must occasionally be available to work outside of standard business hours to coordinate and attend Agency events.
