The Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) is a nonprofit organization focused on fostering effective philanthropy by institutional foundations and individual donors. CEP’s mission is to provide data and create insight so philanthropic funders can better define, assess, and improve their effectiveness – and, as a result, their intended impact. CEP has been credited in the press with “shaking up” the philanthropic world. CEP is viewed as the leading organization in providing research on best practices in giving and performance assessment data to foundations and donors in the U.S. and, increasingly, internationally.
CEP reaches high net worth donors with its evidence-based research mainly through intermediaries such as community foundations, wealth advisors, and commercial gift funds, who use the materials in conversations with donors.
We are seeking a dynamic leader to help refine and execute our strategy to reach more individual major donors with our knowledge and insights, which includes building strong relationships with intermediaries who work with these donors and accurately representing CEP research findings to relevant groups of donors and donor-facing audiences across the United States.
A successful candidate must be passionate about the effectiveness of individual major giving and the relevance of evidence and data to philanthropy. The Director will proactively reach out to key intermediaries to share CEP’s resources through in-person meetings and presentations. The Director will be responsible for refining CEP’s strategy for reaching individual donors with our research and knowledge and for developing a business model to support and broaden this effort. This may involve additional contributed financial support or the creation of earned revenue generating opportunities.
Please note that this position is for 18 months, with the possibility of extension to permanent thereafter. Reporting to the Vice President of Programming & External Relations, this newly created role will require up to 50% travel.
- Minimum of seven years of work experience, with previous work with major donors highly desired.
- A minimum of a bachelor’s (BA, BS) degree is required; advanced degree in business, public policy, or public administration preferred.
- Strategic thinker who is organized and proactive in goal-setting and execution.
- Experience developing new and managing existing relationships with responsibility for high-quality deliverables and presentations.
- Outstanding and persuasive verbal and written communication skills. Strong writing ability with a keen attention to detail.
- Experience managing multiple deadlines while adapting quickly and confidently in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfort and skill interacting with and serving the needs of high-level senior executives and major donors.
- Team player who is self-aware, listens well to others, and responds well to feedback.
- Passionate commitment to the work of the nonprofit sector and the effectiveness of philanthropy.

· The annual salary for this role is $165,000; in addition, this role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation.
