Acting as an intermediary, we provide a range of services that include: training, consulting, financial management and fiscal sponsorship (FS). The management and consulting services, training programs, and community-based grants and investments we offer are designed to meet the needs of complex and growing organizations by strengthening communication and leadership skills, facilitating learning and strategic thinking, and providing practical and operational support to individuals—all toward the goal of increasing their mission impact. Through our fiscal sponsorship arrangement, staff at small organizations legally become employees of TSNE MissionWorks (TSNE), pursuing their organization’s mission, while TSNE oversees their fiscal, legal and HR practices.
Our ongoing partnerships with foundations, service providers, community groups, nonprofits and thought leaders provide us with opportunities for reflection and learning – which strengthens our own programs and services and provides an opportunity to explore trends in the nonprofit sector.

TSNE MissionWorks is seeking a Human Resources Director who will lead a department that supports the growth and evolution of our organization. As we transition following the recent retirement of our 34-year CEO (the Board of Directors is currently searching for a new CEO), we have the opportunity to leverage this leadership change. The HR Director will help to catalyze and support our growth and evolution, working with internal constituents, the staff that work at some of our client organizations and our leadership, along with our external constituents and other people in our community.
You will work with the Leadership Team to hire, develop and retain a high-performing and diverse workforce and a work environment that helps our colleagues do their important work. The six-person HR department supports 70 internal employees and an additional 320 who work directly for organizations we support through fiscal sponsorship in over 26 states nationwide. Our projects focus on things like community boat building, farm to institution networks, financial transparency, women in software, eradicating youth homelessness, immigrant success, teaching kids to be chefs, public health, and keeping childhood commercial free, among others.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Internal and General Human Resources
- Work collaboratively with the Leadership Team, act as a strategic thought leader;
- Oversee all human resources functions, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, compensation, benefits, professional development, employee relations and compliance;
- Lead and supervise the human resources team;
- Design, implement and communicate policies and ways of working;
- Implement and oversee recruitment plans that support staffing needs, while also building on our already diverse workforce;
- Take leadership in creating an environment in which staff from diverse backgrounds can truly thrive;
- Develop and implement specific strategies that support learning and professional development for all staff;
- Oversee onboarding, ensuring that whatever tools are needed to get up to speed quickly, are provided by HR and hiring departments;
- Provide employee relations support to managers and staff; oversee performance and disciplinary issues;
- Oversee implementation of a competitive compensation and performance review structure;
- Oversee benefits and related communications focusing on providing an array of choices that enrich compensation;
- Work with supervisors and managers to create/change organizational structure and related job descriptions as needed;
- Support FS organizations by fostering a productive and committed staff that work directly with these projects; you will directly manage a small caseload of FS projects;
- Oversee HRIS and payroll systems, ensuring integration and support of internal and external needs;
- Oversee all compliance issues;
- Develop and manage HR department and staff salary budget.
CORE COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
- 8 years nonprofit HR experience with specific experience in employee relations, recruitment, performance management and creating and implementing policies, including strong management and supervision;
- Experience with HRIS is necessary, with implementation a plus;
- Experience in change management and leadership transitions a plus;
- A demonstrated commitment to and experience with forwarding racial equity, along with the ability to take a lead in our efforts to create and nurture a diverse working environment in support of the work that we do;
- Ability to connect with many types of people; strong interpersonal and presentation skills;
- Ability to be transparent, supportive, collaborative and diplomatic;
