Funding for arts programming in local neighborhoods
The Boston Cultural Council (BCC) works under the umbrella of the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture to annually distribute funds allocated by the City of Boston and the Mass Cultural Council for local arts and culture programming. BCC grants are for organizations that benefit the public by offering arts programming in local neighborhoods. BCC gives grants for general operating expenses to organizations with budgets under $2 million. The specific amount organizations are eligible for depends on their budget size. The largest amount they will award is $5,000.
Organizations may apply for grants up to a set limit, based on their organizational size. If an organization is selected as a recipient, they will receive a grant in one of the following categories:
- Selected organizations with budgets less than $100,000 will receive a grant of $2,000
- Selected organizations with budgets between $100,000 and $500,000 will receive a grant of $3,500
- Selected organizations with budgets between $500,000 and $2,000,000 will receive a grant of $5,000
The BCC will award up to five grants this year to organizations with budgets of $1-2 million, specifically focusing on those that uniquely serve the City’s arts ecosystem and prioritize cultural diversity, economic diversity, inclusion, and equity, through both their staffing and audiences served.
The deadline to apply for a Boston Cultural Council grant is October 15, 2019. Applications can be made online or print applications can be scanned and emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed to 1 City Hall Square, Room 802, Boston MA, 02201. Translation is available upon request.
