Support to Address the Adverse Effects of Mining

The Grassroots Communities Mining Mini-Grant Program, sponsored by the Indigenous Environmental Network and the Western Mining Action Network, provides support to community-based organizations and tribes or tribal programs in the U.S. and Canada. The goal of the program is to support the capacity building efforts of mining-impacted communities to assure that mining projects do not adversely affect the human, cultural, and ecological health of communities. Requests must be project-specific for an immediate need such as legal assistance, organizing and outreach, development of campaign materials, etc. Grants of $3,000 and $5,000 are provided. Applications for the Program are accepted three times per year; the deadlines are February 1, June 1, and October 1, annually. Emergency assistance outside of these grant cycles is also available on a case-by-case basis. Visit the Indigenous Environmental Network or Western Mining Action Network to download the application. Grant proposals and reports should be submitted to: wman.ien.minigrants@gmail.com.
